What Cetane Diesel do you use?

I use 47 Cetane from the local BP. Costs more but the car seems to run smoother and smoke less.

Texas ULSD requirements state a minimum of 48 cetane in this region of Texas, so that's what I hope I'm getting.

i thought the good bp

was 50. at least it was in poplar bluff where old navy lives.

here i use reg bp mixed with 1/3 prem bp. have to go to 2 stations as the prem station takes as long to pump 5 as it takes a tank at the other station. sometimes i mix in 2 gal of home brew. it smells better.

Diesel Kleen

I add about 2 oz of Diesel kleen each time I filled up. It will boost the cetane by 3 numbers. It also cleans my injectors. I calculated it adds 50 cents to every fill-up of 12 - 15 gallons. I feel my car runs better.

It was AMACO, the local BP is just regular rotgut 42 cetane crap. Now I use MFA B10 that's suppose to be 49 cetane in the Italian Stallion powered Jeep Liberty. I runs smooth as glass on the B10 and is almost as quite as a gasser.

31 mpg for latest road trip, and averaging 20 to 22 in town.

"they are supposed to" and "they told me" the cetane is XX are not valid. Have you ever tested your diesel? Through the sunbelt betcha you do good to hit the mid 40's

Whatever is in the pumps is what I get. I do add some Power Service additive (don't remember which one) to every fill up. Supposedly increases cetane numbers by 5-8, depending on how much you pour in and also cleans injectors. I have not noticed an increase in power but I did notice a slight improvement in fuel efficiency.

MFA has two diesel fuels, one is 42 cetane non bio fuel that is going the way of the Yugo. Their bio mix fuels are, as the man at the home office told me, minium 49 cetane. I do know there is a big difference in the way the 83 240D, '02 VW Jetta TDI and now the Jeep CRD run and sound on the fuel.

One local MFA station operator told me they are working toward all stations having B20 50+ cetane available for street use, off road (farm fuel) will all be B2 to B10, with B100 available delivered to the farm. From what he said he was told in recent meeting is that MFA is in talks to provide biodiesel to other retailers that provide fuel to other brands. He thinks almost all public diesel fuel in MO will be at least B5 to B20 and minium 50 cetane by end of next summer.

I really like the sound of that, because I currently drive 60 miles one way just to buy the B10 fuel. I would love it if the local stations started selling B10 or B20 that was 50 cetane, that would save me a lot driving.

I am not sure what MFA is (station brand), but agree that Bio D has always tested higher cetane (here) than straight Dino.

It would be useful if they labeled all the pumps with the actual cetane rating being sold. Some pumps seem to be labeled with 40 (minimum, I assume), but most are not labeled at all. I drive across country frequently, so I buy diesel in many different places. If they labeled it, I would at least know when I need to dump in some booster. I can often tell the difference from one fill-up to the next (smoke, power).

That's why we test the tankers inbound. This has become a very big cheat from the refineries. Reduce Cost = More Profits. Cetane is the energy in fuel.

Thats good info.

I used Krogers for 2 tanks, and the last tank was a Valero Fuel up.

I'm feelin a need to check out Houston Biodiesel

I've not heard that. I was under the impression cetane was merely ignition delay, the higher the number that faster it kicks off. If the fuel delays on ignition you won't have as much time in the power stroke to make torque, hence a drop in power.

I run homebrew biodiesel, cetane whatever it is. 50?
