Hood springs vanished!

Went to open the hood this afternoon so I could pull the light bulbs out of the DEPO euro headlight, left front (it gets moisture in there after driving in heavy rain) and aim my hair dryer at the hole to dry it out, but as I pulled the hood release in the grill, I noticed immediately that the hood was much heavier than ever before, in fact, if I raised it up to where it should stay and let go of the hood it would come down in a crash, or on my head!

Seems like overnight the springs that hold it up just out of nowhere have disappeared...strange!

Anybody ever have this experience?

I did hear that there were a bunch of hood spring thieves up near Fowl Mouth.........gotta be careful of these fellows. They take the springs and melt them down and sell the steel for scrap metal.

Better lock your hood so it doesn't happen to the SL!!

Am I in the right forum?

Trying to be serious and get wetted.....

The hood springs must have weakened, but from yesterday! I'm baffled!

I doubt I'm an isolated situation, surely someone can confirm similar, but, well, I dha no, I'm not a smart as Laura so I'll never be a senator!

Ohh........sorry........my mistake........you're trying to be serious this time. Who knew?

I'm betting that one of the springs snapped. It's hanging down and you can't see it. The lifting force is now considerably higher.

It occurred because somebody was doing too much wrenching on the vehicle and opened the hood 10,000 times...............

Take you flash light and look back in that pocket

This is definitely the wrong forum for such a smart**s comment. Please go back and remove it with the edit button.

Let us know what happened to the hood springs.

Look on both sides

They are not going far, unless stolen, even you broke one or both.

They are easy to install or remove without tools with your hood in the stand up position.

Check your car over for....

signs of alien abduction...Check to see if a probe of some type (or the springs) was pushed up its tail pipe. Sounds strange to me!!!

The springs probably unhooked from the hood and are lying in the water drain wells where they attach at the other end.

Both of mine came unhooked last week when the hood was in the full vertical postition. The springs become completely loose at that point and fell off the hood hinge. They still were attached back at the body and were laying in the drain wells. and at first glance were hard to see while holding the hood myself halfway up looking around.

If somebody stole them, look for blood stains on the grille or corners of the hood
