Hey you stole this from Infopop. Thief! He He.
Cause I have never done that.

Sounds great. Now we will see if and when it happens.

Snake oil. I will believe it when I see them at a dealership.

I'd bet right now that the govt. will stop it dead in it's tracks. Why? Look at it. Do you think it will survive the safety crash tests? Let's be real, it's not going to get a 5 star rating on the front/side/offset/rear/roll-over tests.

Speaking of the bluetec article

Did you notice the quote at the bottom ( I cannot cut and paste it to this forum) "If we had a light duty diesel population that was one third diesel we could save 1.4 Million barrels of oil a day which is the amount we get from Saudi Arabia" I think I butchered the quote but you get the drift.

I think

I predict diesel hybrid cars will be fifty percent of the auto market in ten years they are doing some truly amazing stuff with them. I doubt it is going to be a deal killer that they only get 100 MPG with all of the mandated safety and smog equipment. The second Iran mines the waters and sinks a tanker or 2 you will see those annoying regulations disappear over night. Then I will not have to worry about the police when I take my extremely efficient electric golf cart to the grocery store.

"Accelerated Composites claims that the coefficient of drag on the vehicle will be 0.055-0.06"

I call BS! You're getting into the CD range of a 2d representation of a sailplane airfoil here. No 3d body with wheels can equal that.
I did see a credible claim of over 300mpg in Cycle magazine over 20 years ago. This fellow had won a mpg contest and the magazine did a write-up on it. IIRC, he started out with a Honda CM185 Twinstar (why not a 100cc single I'll never know). He put on a full front & rear fairing of his own design, took out half the valve springs, installed main jets three sizes too lean, raised the gearing, and advanced the timing.

12hp engine!

I think our TDI passat is fine at 50mpg, plus that 330mpg sounds good and all but id like to get there eventually and with 12 horses i dont think i will. And the price of $2,500 to replace the battery when it dies out isnt something i want to do either. I like the concept of hybrids but i think a new age diesel is much more efficent then a gas hybrid and honda even said that they dont think there is much a future for hybrids but diesels seem to be whats pointing towards the future.

the mileage figure

sounds pretty optomistic.

and i wouldnt want to drive it any place but bonneville with such ridiculous window placement and size.

glad to see folks thinking this way though. it can only lead to better things for all of us.

Just for fun sometimes, have a look at this for great gas mileage. Not practical, not diesel, but still interesting.
