Question on seat padding

Did all W123s come with horsehair padding from factory? Or were there some models that had the hard foam type?

Coincidentally, we got a good seat from the yard with a foam pad on it, so when we replaced the wagon's seat (ripped, torn, etc) the wagon also did have the exact same padding. I don't know if this is the coincidence part but the good seat came from a 1980ish car while our wagon is a 1981.

The sedan, however, has the horsehair pad which I just replaced via pool noodles and foam--and IMHO the procedure will only work successfully if you have broken springs.

The last seat I messed with had foam padding. I think some came with horsehair and other with the foam. I do not know the breakdown on which year etc. it was.

I have done several 123 seats and just assumed that they started using foam about the time they changed allot of things, around 80 or 81. I dont know this for sure but I don't think I've seen horse hair after 80???

My 83 has a layer of foam over the horsehair and I'm sure it has not been touched since the factory (except what I did).

My 83 has (well, had) horsehair and the 81 wagon had foam. Weird...anybody know when these things changed? Might just drop by the yard and look under the seats...
