"Power output was 123 hp (91 kW) at first but rose to 125 hp (92 kW) in 1983."
Amazing! MB somehow figured out how to extract 2HP out of the engine after 4 years of production! What gave them this power rush? Not a "cold air" filter kit, that's for sure. |

well they could of pulled one like the big three would during the muscle car days .. saying the engine for lets say 67 had 20 more horse than the one from 66 but in reality had a total of 350 but the first year running said it had 300.. and just kept saying they added power to it but they really didnt.. ya dig?
i thought my 300d had 90hp.. now it has triple digit.. alllright |

The big three did a lot of messing with the numbers (usually understating the actual power) during the muscle era. I used to be really into muscle cars and had a lot of the published horsepower and torque figures memorized, along with the unofficial (and probably exagerated) "real" estimates from the magazines and others.
After a half-dozen (and then some) speeding tickets, my attitude has changed a bit. I still enjoy driving a fast, powerful car when I get the chance, but for the most part I'm happy with anything that will hang with a loaded Peterbilt. Years ago I saw a VW billboard ad that summed it up pretty well, "0-60? Yes."
