Space to work on a car

I think I finally have decided to fix my rear main seal and reseal the engine and maybe go through the trans while it is out. I have nowhere to do the job, though. Anyone else in the same prediciment and how did you find a spot? Are there places around that rent stalls or even a spot outside? I can probably do it outside although we still have a little winter left and the spring rains will be here soon (Columbus OH). I was teetering on whether to sell my 84 300D and get a 300SD or fix up mine including a paint job. Just wondering on how you all do a big job like this with no space really to do it. Thanks, Eric.

space

One alternative, if you have the funds, is to rent a building space in one of those storage places large enough to hold your car with enough space around it to work. Rubber mats and an electric heater would keep you comfortable.

Much better to find a place inside. Ask around, friends, family, neighbors, bound to be some space around for a week or two. A barn would even work with power.

You can never have too much space. My garage/woodworking shop/whse is 30' x 90' and it is not big enough.

If there are rented apartments near where you live, you could put an ad up about renting a parking space. Many apartments provide parking spaces that the occupants do not use, and may "sublet" a spare one out. a friend of mine rented one out for $60/month, so this could be an option for you. Good luck.

I think that most apartments don't allow you to work on cars in the parking lot..... if you could find one that would then you would be ok although you're still out in the cold, rain, dust, etc. etc. etc.

They usually have problems when people sink jacks into their soft blacktop.
