How can I tell if the turbo is dead ?

I have a turbo from an 82 300SD that was driven without oil in the crankcase.

( ya just gotta love blonds ! )

I would assume that the turbo is dead also. But I have learned that my assumptions can be wrong.

What would you look for, to tell you if the turbo was usable or not ?
