Fuel Tank Leak Fix Needed

I have a 1983 300 diesel with 138 K miles, removed the tank and cleaned. Runs great now but has a leak in the tank just forward of the fuel tank strainer in the curved part of the tank. I am wondering if this can be welded with a patch over the area leaking ( a hole about the size of pencil ) Or should I use a product like J-R Stick an epoxy which is advertised to stick to all surfaces. The tank is in great shape otherwise and is quite clean. Should I drill out the leak 1/4" to allow better adhesion???
Thanks for all the great input and knowledge on this site.....
