Hello all, new member. Point me in the right direction please.

Hello, my name is Brian, I just bought a 1983 300d turbo. It has 225k on it and runs great on the highway, but as you probably guessed it's slow taking off and a little sluggish. Is there a thread on how to remove and adjust the correct valve?

Here she is. It was repainted recently I imagine and the paintjob wasn't quite so bad other than they didn't sand it down, and left junk in the paint which I will sand out and polish the entire thing. I am a professional detailer and have already tackled numerous issues and when it is all done I'll post many pictures and the entire writeup i do on it. I'm sure all I need to do is search this forum as it appears to have many great tutorials, If some of you have prior knowledge to an old thread that can help me I'd appreciate it.

There you go, should help you.

I recommend buying wrenches, using a torch to bend them to desired angle and using a bench grinder to grind out the ends of (the cheap!) wrenches you buy. Its all about saving money and improvising.

Its kind of fun actually.

Holy sheet that's some procedure, maybe I should stick to paint correction, how much would a job like that cost me roughly?

This site has more than you can read about the proper "just bought it now what?" tune-ups. Do searches on Italian tune up, fuel filter change, ALDA, turbo boost; but mostly just keep reading and asking.

Thanks mt, it's really funny, I respond the same answer all the time on detailing forums, but it's like force of habit to ask the new guy questions for some reason.

I also love my new car, it's funny because i am around very expensive vehicles all the time and I don't look at any one of them the way I do my diesel. I use to have a 01 s430 that i wasn't as excited about, go figure.

Valve adjustment is not complicated. Biggest concern is R'N'Ring the cam cover. Gaskets can be re used. Bent wrenches are a big help, so is an assistant! Take pics, if you can of the linkage you need to remove.

I would not reuse your valve cover gasket. They get an indention after being on for a little while, and resealing can be a crapshoot. They also don't cost much at all.
We reused mine at the tech session last weekend {I gave Armando the new one I brought with me as his had a blowout} and it is leaking quite a bit. Now I have to buy a new one and clean the engine.
And, the bent wrenches make the job SO much easier, and allow you to be more precise with your adjustment so you don't have to keep loosening and tightening the cap nut.

Where are you located? Perhaps there is a forum member close by that can assist you in doing this the first time. It is really not complicated, I was so motivated after doing the first one, that I did my other MB the same day.

If the gasket is still plyable, I will reuse it a secound time, but never more than that. Seeing how you just got it, I would replace it.
