1984 Mercedes 300SD ignition broken

I have a 1984 300SD with a broken ignition. The key broke off and before that we could not get the key to turn. Tried to shake the wheel and everything but now just want the cheapest way to fix this car.

I have heard of people by-passing the key and using a starter switch or button connected to a 4 wires to the ignition.

Need help bad car has been sitting around for a few months now

If the steering wheel is locked up the is no other way around to repair it right. On my car 15 years ago it was $400.00.

This is going to be a multi-parter:

In addition to WHunter's comprehensive list, read here about the igntion key. It CAN be drilled out with a template. There's a lot of info and cross-references, so don't jump on the first solution. You MAY need to call a locksmith - ask if they have (or can order) the tool from lockmasters.

Ignition lock housing replacement and re-key

Next, since it's been sitting for a few months, you'll want to do some research on starting a really cold engine. I'd start with getting the battery onto a trickle charger right now.
