How to determine if my R12 system was converted.
Is there a sure fire method to determine if my AC was ever converted to R134. I have a few cans of R12 and would like to charge my system. The problem is I have no Idea what was done in the past.
I have the older Compressor style I think a Delco, last year I jumped the compressor clutch and could hear a hissing under the dash on the passenger side. I want to check for leaks but would hate to use up the R12 for that purpose. 77 300D Last edited by 97E300D; 04-17-2006 at 12:47 PM. |

the R12 has screw on ports for charging and r134a has push on connectors. if you have threads on the outside of the connector when you remove the blue cap, then you have r12. if it's been coverted, there SHOULD also have a sticker placed somewhere in the engine compartment stating such. Of course that is not guarenteed that they placed the sticker.

That's good then I should have the R12.
I there a good way to test for leaks? Can the UV dye work in a R12 system? |

You are obviously talking about a car other than your E300D because that one has R134. UV dyes will work in an R12 system.
