Need knowledge of the 190 D......

Having the 87 300D for 3 years has been a wonderful experience and having a 30 mpg average even better.....with the increase in fuel priceses rising, I'm wanting to know more about the 602 engines.

We know that the 126 and 124 were limited to 86-87-90-91-92-93-95, were also the 190, or 201 car available for these years?

I want to buy the latest built 190 D, with the least mileage and am willing to pay that market price.....low mileage is say 80K to 120K in maintained condition.

If you, or anyone knows of such a car for sale, I will be interested.

Email me here, or email me at Windmill@isp.com........steve

AFAIK the 190D 2.2 was available in 84-85, 190D 2.5 in 86-89 and the 190D 2.5t in 87.

So Sixto, in your opinion, which is, or was, the better configuration?

Not much is, or has ever been, discussed here about the 602....

I want to achieve maximum mpg....I don't like the TDI, and have also owned a 190E, and believe I could get mid to high 30's with the later 190-D

if you are after max mileage i would go for a 2.2 fiver. it will be a little slow but will make a 240 look like a slug...what am i saying? a 240 IS a slug.

love em though.

I have no experience with the 2.5 but my mileage is consistantly over 40 with the 2.2 190D on wvo. 43 - 45 mpg on straight #2 dino, however, I drive almost all flatland highway miles at 63 mph (average 800-1000 miles a week).

That is certainly very encouraging...is what I am looking for!

Again, if anyone knows of a clean low mileage 190-D for under $8K, I'm interested........windmill@isp.com steve..

My 300D 2.5T gets about 30-32 average city/hwy mixed. All city driving gets it down to about 28. All freeway driving it gets about 34mpg at 70-75mph. At 50-60mph I got about 36mpg once, but who drives 50-60 on the freeway these days?

Before I replaced my injector return lines I was getting about 3mpg less as one of them was leaking a good amount of fuel onto the injector.

While I do love my 87 300 D, 603, I'm in a position financially to purchase an E300D, the aspirated version of the 603, said to deliver good power, not like the 87 603, but sufficient! I see currently available 95 124 US diesels (special Edition) available from $4,500 to $10,000..........and what appears to be a better value based on INTERNET photos and description, lower miles, are the $8,500 car.....the one that is listed for $10K shows an 87 aluminum wheel, placed on the left rear, and other obvious deficiencies.. shopper, buyer, beware!

Actually the 95 E300 has the 4-valve OM606. Known problems with this engine include glow plugs that don't last as long glow plugs in older engines and problems with the intake manifold runner switchover mechanism that causes the engine to surge. From what I've read, these are not major issues.
