Instrument cluster. 80 300td
Lots of issues in my cluster:
1. No lights. Someone mentioned in another thread it was the potientiometer, however I cant even find an adjustment in the car (Looked in manual) did the 300td just not have an adjuster? 2. Trip meter goes to 59.9 and stops. 3. Fuel gauge stuck on full and low fuel light always on. I think this is due to "gumming" up in the tank, I just filled with b100 so hopefully it will come loose? I need to clean the screen anyways so maybe I will do that after this tank is done. Is there anyway I can put a tach in there? I have seen some clusters with a tach/clock combo on the right. |

My '80 TDT has the rheostatic dimmer opposite the trip odometer reset button. Looks identical, but twists rather than pushing. No reason to ever turn it down, though. it's always too dim. I put in a couple of new xenon bulbs. There are only two lamps for the dash, perhaps both are burnt. Suggest the upgrade! Test all of the indicators before you pull the cluster; fuel, hibeam, glow, etc.
Sounds like maybe a broken tooth on one of your odometer spools, or, if you're lucky, just needs some lube. Don't get any on the face. What about that parts vehicle? What are the two mileages? Where are you located? I'm in SE PA. |

No non turbo models have a tach, and you dont need one. Floor it until it shifts- then continue flooring until it shifts, repeat proccess, and then level off at desired speed.

If you switch the speedo clusters, or even the entire instrument cluster, which is simpler, then you only gain 15k on your mileage. Then you can take the time and explore the original odometer's problems. Throw a battery in the parts car and test those lamps first.
