1996 E300: Two problems that may be related...
Hey there. I've been able to resolve the gas leak and start-up difficulties without much a fuss. In fact, you fellows were much more helpful than three Mercedes shops in my area and I have the nickels and dimes to prove it.
The vehicle starts and drives fine. However when it gets to a stop light or is driven less than 5mph this E300 will have a bit of a vibration. It feels like it's either loose motor mounts or not enough fuel. However I'm lead to believe it may be the former due to the lack of lurching and variance in the rpm's.
The second challenge I have takes place at around 50 to 60 mph. The vehicle sounds like it's not getting enough gas at times and the cruising rpm's will vary by about 150 rpm's. It sounds like the computer is trying to get more fuel in... and then reducing to let the excess fuel go out. I'm wondering if this may be attributable to some type of fuel regulator. I know the fellow who owned it briefly did not install the fuel filter properly so I'm wondering if perhaps a related badly done maintenance job may also possible be attributable to it.
Again, thanks in advance for all your thoughts and I hope all of you have a great week.
