what about the brushes?

Is there a chance that the brushes could have been replaced in that alternator?

My daughters 190E 2.6 wasn't charging and I replaced the brushes, it was a simple in place job.

modified tools

i can look in my tool box and find quite a few modified tools for different cars through the years!

each one has its story. some so old i prob cant remember the story.

and i have quite a few tools that i bought for a special situation that i have literally never used for one reason or another.

I have a mix of Snap-on, Craftsman, Thorsen, and Master Mechanic. There is no comparison in the quality of my old Snap-ons and Thorsens to what is sold retail now days. I will not buy ANYTHING made in China. I needed some impact sockets last night and went down to Home Depot and found a deepwell set for $59 that was made in China. I was boiling because I really needed the tools last night but I refused to give in. I strolled on down to the Chinese Market (walmart) to see what they had, having low expectations. Much to my surprise, they had a nice Stanley set that was made in Taiwan for $17. Ideally, I would buy American, but I was in a jam. At least my hard earned $$$ didn't go to strengthen the godless red communist b@stards.

These days China is about as communist as Bill Gates. No idea how godless and/or red they are, though.

I guess all of those executed political prisoners in China decided to sell their own organs.

I didn't say they were nice guys, just that they are not very communist anymore. It's just a little more complex than "communist = bad." Anyway, the communists don't seem to have a monopoly on political prisoners these days.

If we want to do something about China, we should just keep selling them our stuff (747s, blue jeans, nuclear power plants, internet service, music videos, pet rocks, minivans, cargo ships, whatever). Would you rather have 1.3 billion enemies, or 1.3 billion customers?

Yeap, sell them that and the next thing you know, they will have a knockoff at half the price. I may not be surprise to see Mercedes and BMW lookalikes running aound soon. They are great at copying even though the quality is not there - just like the imitation Rolex.
