Is Valvoline MaxLife DEXRON III/MERCON ATF ok to use?

I'm wondering if this ATF is ok/good to use in my '93 300D? Is it approved by MB? I've heard good things about this ATF so I wanted to switch out to it.
Also is it ok for me to just drain the existing fluid and fill with MaxLife without doing a transmission filter change? I will still do the filter change at the specified interval.

Anything else I should know about changing to a different ATF?

Thanks,
PaulW

Thumbs up

I've used it before on high mileage vehicles, works fine. Currently I run cheapo ATF in all my vehicles (well minus this LS400 I maintain, uses some lame Type II crap from Toyota... tryin' to see if regular DexIII will work there) from AutoZoo... made by Coastal I believe.

The stuff I use is less than $6/gal currently.

Does anyone know if this type of ATF is approved by MB?

The dealer told me to use Dexron 2 or 3 in my '96. This doesn't apply to the later electronically-controlled transmissions, but I would assume that it applies to you.

Up here in the frozen north, our MB Canada owned-dealers sell us Quaker State Dex III(H) for our 1990's cars. I'm sure that any good-quality Dex III will be fine!

Cheers

I always thought anything certified for Dexron/Mercon II could use a Dexron/Mercon III approved ATF w/o probs. Someone else, tell me if I am right or wrong.

Me too.

I think OP needs to open the owner's manual and see what was needed. The ATF requirements for the newer cars are no longer generic ATF as they had been in the past.

Yes Dextron/Mercon is what you need to run in your car.
