Clutch Hydraulic System Question
I am finally getting around to putting the Benz back on the road. New trunk lid seal is finished and I get in to start her up. The clutch pedal goes to the floor and stays! The master has shown signs of leaking so I figure it was time.
So I order a new master and the first thing I do is go to drain the system so I do not get fluid all over the interior. Jack the car up, get all ready. Put the wrench on the slave bleed screw and then attach the tubing to attempt to keep everything neat and tidy. Open the slave bleed screw and NOTHING! No fluid at all. Help me out here gang. The slave is the lowest point in the clutch hydraulic system? If no fluid came out that must mean my leak is really in the slave? Funny though, I see no signs of leakage at the slave.

Did you see brake fluid coming from the clutch master cyl, like leaking down under your carpet? When replacing the clutch M/S you can pinch off the line coming from the brake master cyl reservoir, replace the clutch M/S and bleed the system. You wouldnt want to drain any fluid from the slave. Do a search on bleeding the clutch. I use the R/F brake slave.

It is NOT unusual for the bleeder screw to plug with gunk. Chances are that if the master failed, the slave is not far away from failing. Hydraulic systems go bad faster from sitting than being in use.
My 2 cents worth..... If you are going to keep the car, replace both.

I took the level of brake fluid in the reservoir below the level of the clutch intake. I was going to completely drain the clutch system as I am also going to completely flush the brake system when I am done with the clutch. I have a PowerBleeder. The fluid needs to be totally flushed from both systems.
I double checked the clutch slave and it is totally void of fluid. The bleed screw still had the factory rubber cap on it. The clutch master had streaks of fluid down the sides. The clutch slave has no signs of leakage but it is hard to tell. It has to be leaking, the slave is the lowest point in the system, where did all the fluid go? I am going to get with Phil and order the slave as well. I plan on keeping this car till death do us part.
