Well, I must be officially bitten by the MB diesel bug since I picked up an '81 240D locally for $300. It's the same exterior and interior combo as my '82 300D, but without the sunroof and is an automatic. While driving it home it would shift through the first three gears by the time it hit 35, so I'll have to learn how to troubleshoot the automatic now. Didn't realize how spoiled I was with the 300's 4-speed!

Oh well, at least whoever did the original conversion on the 300 left all the original automatic vacuum stuff on there, so I've got some parts already.
Just about got the 300 back together and will post some pics. The valve cover is now completely devoid of any accoutrements and I even polished it until impatience made me put it back together to hear how the valve adjustment sounded. It runs smoother now but I still think I have an injector nailing and have to install the upgraded rack damper since there's still a low RPM lope and I don't want to keep it idled around 900RPM.
Installed some new Bilstien HD shocks and really liked the ride. Unfortunately the speedo cable broke and now I've got to pull it to get the length since there's two flavors. If it's not one thing it's another!
