low sulfur and current cdi

I've noticed stickers appearing on pumps that warn against using low sulfur diesel in 2007 and later vehicles due to the possibility of engine damage. Has anyone heard anything about using low sulfur diesel in the current CDI (straight six turbo)?
Thanx, Jeff

The I-6 engines should be fine. They were made to run on 50ppm LSD fuel. ULSD should have no effect on them.

Speaking of cdi's....I saw my second EVER e320 cdi in of all places, Ludington Michigan!! It was white, a michigan car, and shiny and awesome looking! However, I prefer my beast, which carried my girlfriend and I 255 miles today without a glitch, the cruise even worked!! Once I pressed a different option on the climate control (air to floor) while going 75 with cruise working flawless, at the same moment as pressing the climate button, the cruise shut off. Looks like I have a few minor electrical gremlins No idea why that happened....all I had to do was go back up to 75, press the stalk again, and it was locked back in just fine Weird.... Had no probs the rest of the way home (another 80 miles) held the speed like a rock. Only 270 miles till I hit 240,000!!!

The entire point of Bluetech, the reason it is taking so long to get here is because ULSD needs to be in place. Those things have a bunch of cats, they need ULSD.

And here's me thinking about putting in a 3" pipe from the engine to a stock muffler (new one) at the back sometime late this summer (or when the assembly falls off, whichever comes first ) Far, far cry from bluetec I am going to dump the resonators....I was even considering just doing a pipe altogether w/no other stuff, I like the noise. I'll probably shell it out and at least put a stock muffler at the back, I want to keep the cool double tailpipe thing going.

Imagine how much better the CDI's (present and future) will run without all those cats and particle filters. I've heard 6.0L Powerjokes with straight pipes and the VNT. Sounds like a jet takeoff.

Maybe, the new cats are not that restrictive. They have what looks like 2-3 per pipe. Plus O2 sensors. Neat engine, very compact package. Putting the turbo in the center seems like a good idea.

Two GT VNT's like the V8 would have been more efficient. But, that would cost them more money to build...

I don't know they stick the turbo in the center of the cylinder banks, so all the runs are short. With a VNT turbo why would you need two? I know before VNT turbo's Volvo was a big fan of sticking a small one on for low rpm work and a larger one with a bypass for higher revs. The idea was to get rid of lag so when you punch the throttles the boat moves now. But with a VNT turbo the problem is solved. Knowing MB said turbo is probably more then capable of overboosting the engine.

At the Shell station by my house in San Antonio, the diesel pump has a sticker that says: "Warning, FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS use of this low-sulfur highway diesel fuel in 2007 and later year models due to possible engine damage." I was curious, but when I asked the person behind the counter about it, his response was "there's a sticker on there??"... Doesn't really make a difference for me, I still haven't moved into the 1990s yet as far as car ownership goes (sadly, wardrobe, too, now that I think about it).

Good reason to buy from a truckstop. Unless they start pushing ULSD there.
Can you imagine a trucker's comment if they pulled up in a new truck and saw a warning like that? I dunno where all this is going but its going to freak out some Texans me thinks!

The pump at the Pilot truck stop on I-45 has that. They're now selling B15, with the warning that the fuel is at 500ppm in sulfur content, and that use in 2007 and newer vehicles will cause damage.

I thought the current level for on-road diesel was 50ppm.

thanks for the link. Wondering what does it all mean?
an example of beauracratic mess? Cleaner air? dirty filters? voided warranties?
Sheesh, I bet we will be hearing about repercussions on this for a long time
