window and sunroof issues in 82 300CD

Just bought a 300CD with 200k miles... i knew when i got it i would need to put some money and time into it, but... wow.

Driving the car home, I opened all four windows and sunroof, this all worked fine. The sunroof was a little dodgy on the way back, eventually failing to respond to the controls altogether. I cranked it closed with a ratchet wrench and have determined that the motor works, because it will open, but it won't close, like the current isnt flowing to the motor. Any ideas?

Much more importantly, the rear passenger window does not close. It opened fine, and 20 minutes later does not respond to the control. I replaced the fuse it is on, but that doesn't seem to be the problem as the front driver's window is working. Is the switch a possible point of failure?

thanks

Congratulations on your new classic turbo diesel coupe. Take a look at the production numbers sometime, kinda rare, 8000 and some odd total production.

Brace yourself for parts prices. Almost everything from the firewall back is unique to the coupe.

The rear quarter windows in the 123 coupe have issues. Run some searches here. As you find users names whose posts you find helpful, use the names in your searches.

Sunroof issues are also well covered but are not unique to the coupe. Search or check the DIY section.

Adjust the valves and make sure the injectors are clean.

thanks!

would you recommend a haynes/chilton manual or is there a source for the stock manual?

The Haynes is OK for basic stuff. This online manual can be helpful too:

The manuals are good for basic repairs. This forum is better for detailed or unusual problems.

I just did a sunroof. The rubber feet were shot and the track needed cleaning and lubing. It now runs smoothly and faster than it did when I bough it.
