85' 300D Transmission Question
My transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd normally shifts hard but on time. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd, their is a lag in the shift when the RPM's raise before it engauges into 3rd gear. Shifts from 3rd to 4th almost immediatly after with that same RPM raise before engauging into 4th. Dose this seem to be a vacuum issue or an internal problem? Thanks

Could be one or the other or both. Remove the vacuum line going to the transmission modulator so the transmission is operating with no vacuum at all. If all shifts firm up, then you know the flaring is causes by too much vacuum. If there is no change, consider installing one of the shift kits available to solve these kinds of problems.

A poorly adjusted transmission cable could cause some of that, but will not answer all the issues.
An over-filled transmission will also cause some of those conditions. Start with basic adjustments such as the cable, fluid level and vacuum. Final resort should be the Superior Shift Kit. |

Sounds like flaring to me. How many miles on it and how was it cared for over the years.

I took Kerrys advise and removed what I believe to be the vacuum line going from the trans modulator to the VCV. Can some one tell me if this part here,
Thanks |

Yes it is.

OK. I disconnected a line on the part that is located on the LH inner fender well with the blue cap. It has a lot of vacuum hoses going to to it and one looked to go behind the engine so I figured it went to the trans. What part did I take a vacuum hose from?

the hose that loos like it runs behind the engine goes down to the vacuum modulator on the transmission.
