Battery terminal gone wild

Why is it the negative side of my battery terminal accumulates verre de gris?
Nothing else is connected to the battery other then the cables...
Whats wrong here?

Acid leaking from the battery is corroding the terminal. Remove and clean both the terminal and post with a baking soda solution and sandpaper or a wire brush, and use silicone grease or vasoline to lubricate the connection before you reassemble.
