How Do you Change Fuel Filter 85 300D
I will be changing the fuel filter (the screw on one). I know that I'm suppose to prime the new one with the primer. Anything else to keep in mind?

There is an O ring on the hollow bolt. If it is hard, like plastic, it should be replaced. Also have a new crush ring on hand.

It shouldn't, there is always a little bubble in the clear filter. Just make sure there are no leaks, prime & start. Some people fill the spin on filter with tranny fluid before installing, I never did, and was able to start right up after replacing and priming.

the reason for priming with tranny fluid is twofold
Quote:
John oh, and a bubble in the prefilter is fine, bubbles in the clear line down stream of the spinon is to be avoided, but the return hoses usually will take any excess air and clear it out for you once the car starts. |

I filled the filter with ATF (first time I EVER did this in my 25 years working on diesels) made sure it was all the way full and didn't even prime it. It started right up never missing a beat.
I am going to try the same proceedure next time I change the fuel filter on my Cummins.
