Can't you just grab the cable with some vise-grips, or even a pair of pliers?

So far- no. But all I had around last night was pliers, and unhappy Cubs fans. After about 5 pounds of pull on the wire with pliers...the pliers it slip off the 1/2 inch of cable. I belive the hardware store near my car should be open today around 10 or so. I'll peruse their wares.

1981 300SD...
1) Replace the lower ball joints
2) Replace the tie rods, drag link, steering dampner, rebuild the idler arms
3) Replace the control arms
4) Replace the guide rods
5) Replace the motor mounts
6) Replace the engine shock absorbers
7) Fix the very hard shifting transmission
8) Fix the A/C
9) Replace the dashboard
10) Get the car painted
11) Replace the interior (Seats and Carpet)
12) Fix the driver and front passenger windows
13) Needs an oil change
14) Fix the many oil leaks
15) ??
Frankly the car was never meant to be a daily driver, when I bought it, it was supposed to be a project car that I would drive occasionally and tinker with when I had time. Then my wifes car got totaled, and she got layed off. So, my car became her car and the project car became my daily driver. Even with all its problems it aways gets me where I want to and has never failed me...and its in better shape than when I bought it.

My list looks a lot like the previous poster:

Basicaly redo the front suspenssion on the 240D

Now where it really get awesome is on the other 2 cars

300SD:

-Replace windshield
-Replace backglass/ repair defrost
-Hunt down electrical gizmo that keeps the car electrical systems on even after turning off the ignition!!!!
-R/R Passenger back side window regulator
-R/R Driver front window regulator
-Tackle The evil ACCII servo. The AC actually works, compressor when jumped does cool the tubing departing from it but the system only set up is defrost!! No heat, no cool.

300TD:
-Rust repair on back gate, passenger side trunk well, and under back seats:confused:
-ATF cooling lines leaking from everywhere R/R
-Brake lines rotten R/R
-Hydraulic lines leaking R/R (I would actually to replace all the above with stainless steel flex lines)
-Driver seat to pool noddled.
-Sunroof drainage lines rusted.
-Install battery tray
-15" hubcaps missing clamps
-could use a paint (but need to remove trim, roof rack,etc...)
- new seals needed on windshield, quarter windows, gate.

Jesus!!! now i am depressed!!!

I would post mine........but I don't want to crash the server:D

rrgrassi 07-05-2007 03:47 PM

It would be easier to list things that do not need to be done.

Mercury 07-05-2007 07:18 PM

My summer list

The list for 2007
Headlights/FogLights/Assembly
Proper citric acid flush
Hood Pad
Radio
Speakers
New springs ?? (Come on Vogtland!)

Further off
Find that vibration at 45 mph.

For those of you that are looking to repaint ... google "car roller paint" I have two friends that have done it. Cost $200, but you spend LOTS of hours of your free labor !! Looks as good as you want it to.

My list is too long -- it'd be shorter to post what I don't need to do anymore :) Here's what I'm hoping to get accomplished before the rainy season sets in...

1. fix water leak by front passenger area.
2. get/make valve wrenches, adjust valves, replace valve cover gasket.
3. flush power steering and change filter.
4. replace front guide bushings and lower ball joints, get new alignment.

And then there's the non-benz stuff...

5. replace front driver seat on volvo
6. recharge AC on volvo
7. replace failing multifunction switch on expedition

vstech 07-05-2007 09:50 PM

on my list for the TD is the SLS pressure hoses, and the seats/full interior swap from the parts car.
the SD needs a radio bad.
oil the blower motor,
fix the Cruise and the Odometer
and convert back to R12...
replace the motor mounts
replace the motor shocks, and the mounts for the shocks.
oh, I am sure there's more...
drivers seat spring...
rear brakes
um. ... front end rebuild... practically everything under there is worn...
that ought to keep me busy for a while...

To do list

Heh heh. I was thinking about this but realised the list is so long it pretty much includes rebuild the whole car. So now It's just come down to try to ignore everything and hope it holds together long enough to get to it's third high mileage badge :(
