wrong size axle bolt hole

I am replacing both the rear axles on a 1985 300td, and the axles I recieved are wrong. they fit, but I did not notice they had the wrong bolt size until I had installed them (duhuh) I assume I can just get the larger 12 mm bolts, and the washer, and use it. Is there a place to buy this? I looked at fast lane, and all they show is the 8mm. Anyone have one of the 12 mm bolts around, or know what they measure? Thanks alot! John

The 12mm bolt is the old style. There is a kit that you can buy to change to the 8mm newer style. It includes a threaded adapter plus the 8mm bolt, long spacer, and crush washer that is now standard for the axles. It is possible that the kit is now a dealer-only item but you should try emailing or calling Fastlane and the other aftermarket parts places first. Often they can get all the unusual stuff but it doesn't show up on their web site catalog.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the axles?

Jeremy

I got them from autopartswarehouse its one of them many generic online parts sources. I had bought the same thing from them before, same axles, same part numbers, and I got the correct ones, of course, for all I know the other one is good, as I only tried the one side. I will try looking for the adaptation. thanks

I have had no luck finding what I need, so I am either going to buy different axles, or lose my mind.
