Kinda OT, but can anyone give me leads on how to duplicate body mods?
Like spoilers and what not. There obviously is still a market out there for the parts and everyone charges ASTRONOMICAL prices on these. I may be getting a zender front spoiler in days to come and was wondering about how to make clones....

I have yet to see a fake body kit that I couldn't spot in the dark after 6 beers.
![]() I know there are a few W126 body kits around, most in the several thousand dollar range. But really most look somewhat dated on these cars today.

I saw on one of those car shows ,where the guys took (for lack of a better description)chunks of surfboard foam.Hot glued it to the car and actually molded the foam to the desired shape, then removed the foam and made a hard fiberglass female mold. Then used the female mold to fabicate the new fiberglass body fairings.I know its a ton of work, but it was really cool to watch these parts being made.

Making one is a pain. Making several can be hell. You have to make male and female molds that allow for material thickness and a mess of other issues. If your thinking of making many ... the molds are the bigest $ and making good molds for 20 is the same $ for 100.
Try to put your pigment in the gell so little chips won't show. To do this you have to make several test pieces to see how they compare to the origional paint that has been faded fro a few years. If you live in a race track area of the country, see if yo can visit a body man. These guys are magic! They fix those fiberglass parts every week on wild NASCAR tracks. They might be able to give you leads for supplies and maybe you can take some busted panels home & use these as part of your mold. Have fun. I did lots of body modifications in the 70's and it can be art. |
