Where do I buy Zerex G-05? Help!
I have looked at all the places people suggest in the threads I have searched and come up dry at napa, pep boys, autozone, advance auto, cap, and I absolutely cannot find it for sale online anywhere including western auto/parts america!! I have literally searched for hours. Is there anywhere to buy it online??? HELP! My local Mercedes dealer wants 25 bucks per gallon and I just can't bring myself to buy it. I have found the mercedes labeled stuff online and can get it shipped for 20 bucks a gallon but it just seems silly to waste money on something simple like this when there is a cheaper alternative (zerex). I have already put a lot of $ into my 87 300d since i bought it a month ago...

I got mine at Pep Boys. $10.99 a gal if I remember correctly. It's in a gold colored plastic jug. The marking "G-05 Formula" is really tiny, you have to search the label to find it. The label has "Zerex" in huge letters with a tiny "G-05 Formula" next to it.
Where are you located? |

I agree , what marketing. Probably simply that they refuse to sink to giving it away on national contracts to the national chains. Almost impossible to find it. Stumbled across some at an autoparts store in Grand Rapids, MI a month ago.
I would bet that anyone that is a Valvoline dealer would order a case for you. How about a oil wholesaler in your area. Many will still sell to general public. Steve |

I got mine at O'reilly's, but I had to ask for it - it wasn't displayed, it was in "the back" - but it was on their website.

How much is your time worth? How much of your time have you spent trying to save maybe $20 on two gallons of coolant at most, vs spending that time on better things.
I'm all for saving money, if I was at a store and the two were side by side I'd grab the cheaper.

Finally found the g-05!
After fruitless searches of all the local auto parts stores, I sat down and called all the parts stores around the city where I work and found one Napa that had it. $11/gallon. I'm sure it wasn't worth the time I spent but I just had a mental block about paying the benz stealer $25/gal. Thanks for all the input. I will be doing a radiator flush because I have the evil green coolant. I plan to do a degreasing flush first, then flush with water a few times, then citric acid flush, drive it back and forth to work, then flush with water 4 or 5 times.

After the fact, but I sent an e-mail to Valvoline and asked where I can buy the Zerex G05. The responded that you can go to NAPA store and they will be glad to order some.

I got one of the last three O Relily's Zerex G-05 bottles in my area - they are unfortunately discontinuing it. The good news is I got it for $3.95 on a closeout discount. I ALMOST drove 20 miles to get the other two.

The local AutoZone shops used to carry it... they no longer do. Luckily one of the local indy parts houses still has it... Halsey Automotive for those of you in Portland.

What's the story on Zerex being so important? I'm not arguing here, just curious. I've always run the standard green ethylene glycol 50/50 mixes, and I'm getting ready to flush the coolant in the MB anyway.

Im guessing certain pieces ,components in the lines ,servos etc have radiator fluid requirements. The evil servo in my 79 mb wagon gave up the ghost after a flush ,plastic piece ,split up the side ,was able to retrieve a junkyard piece for $17 bucks ,awesome deal considering these run $750 bucks to $1400. Ive recently taken the piece apart ,it looks like a thin gasket in the piece and the fact that its made of plastic, like a distributor cap, doesnt help the design. Why OH wHY DID MERCEDES GET MIXED UP WITH AMERICAN PARTS.
