Good point. I rinsed mine out with charcoal lighter fluid and I always keep a spare spin on and a prefilter [along with the tools to change them] in the glovebox.

Is this problem happening only in colder states? Anybody in Ca. ever encounter this? Ive driven my car for quite sometime, Ive never encountered this problem. My prefilter gets dark but it doesnt clog. I only change it every 50k miles.
