Flashing dome light - Trouble code?

Whenever I open my door with the key in the ignition, my dome light will blink in a sort of pattern, like I have seen other cars do with the engine light to give a trouble code. Is this the same type of thing, or does it do it to remind you to take your keys out?

blink codes?

I was wondering the same thing. When I put my key in the ignition switch, turn it to glow (while the driver's car door is open) my dome light blinks oddly.

I have noticed similar blinking patterns when using scan tools on old chevys, you would ground out a terminal and the check engine light would blink a code that you pieced together and then would look up. Is my benz blinking in code? Is there a code sheet to read these blink/fault/codes?

No such code, the '87 has no body computer, and no data connection between the dome light and the engine electronics.

Probably has more to do with the flashing seat-belt light.
