Does anyone have a new link for these videos? The youtube link is dead and nothing comes up in a search.

I kind of like that woman, that Vicky Butler-Henderson, though. Little bit of the babe goin' on. And she can drive too.

Since that wagon was running on a "G" reg. number plate, and those came out from 08-'89 though 09-'90, so it'd be a 1990, just like the thistle green London Bomb Car at the Tiger Club.

A '90 gas W124 wagon with 167k is a deal at under 700 pounds, too. Especially with a valid MOT and tax disc on it.

That's about $1,400 for a really nice car in good shape

What a waste to destroy it like that. Kind of pi$$es me off, silly gits killing it.
Oh well, it proved the point of the tests. Went down with guns blazing.

That program has been called lame compared to Clarkson and Top Gear (and pretty much everyone else.)

Sad to see that the BBC has finally sunk to the level of American broadcasting but then after 12 years of airing "Larry Springer" I suppose British viewers expect the bar to lower. Honestly, any number of people should be shot for perpetrating such an egregiously wasteful act.

As soon as the baseball bat came out, I turned it off. So sad. :(

Yes chaps, lets go around touting the quality of the car quite professionally and then proceed to slowly destroy the car, with no knowledge gained, because the record of durability on the cars as been well documented and well stated...ahem...jolly good..here here... hip hip hurrah!

BOOM! SMASH! ... Well that was quite a show...:1blank:... well alright then!

And I thought America had an abundance of stupidity... Well then... :freak:

Fifth Gear is not a BBC programme. It is a Channel Five programme, funded by advertising.

Lots of people in the UK were pretty annoyed about that piece. It was a blatent ripoff of Top Gear, who by the way do a much much better job of trashing old cars.

The car itself wasn't in good condition - no way. For that price it would have been an insurance write-off, a rustheap, or needing major engine/electrical work. So fret not. IIRC it even had chrome wheelarches, a sure sign it was a a heap of rust.

Scarecely a scintilla of difference between UK/USA programming

Oh really? *raises eyebrow*

Then, can you explain how come it had a valid MOT and road tax disc on it?

Parrot of Doom 07-09-2007 09:36 AM

The 911 piece was not a Top Gear video.

An MOT is only valid on the day of the test. Rusting wheelarches, dented bodywork, failed electrical systems - none of these are required for a vehicle to pass. It just has to demonstrate adequate roadworthiness. Even the ABS system or airbags aren't required. It may have been in an accident and suffered significant damage - but still hold a valid MOT.

At the end of the day, if it was £700 there was a good reason for it.

A tax disc has nothing whatsoever to do with the condition of the vehicle.

Two words: "Benny Hill"

Don't know what to say other than this was a ridiculous set of tests (other than the road test) of how the car held up. To be upfront, this was like an elementary school kids kind of test on this car. In the end I was saddened to see a nice MB end up like this, once a nice car and now just a piece of junk just for a half-rate video to prove the merits of the car. How about something like how long it would run without coolant or on just one quart of oil. An appauling waste of a good car is all I can say.:(

Ara T. 04-26-2008 06:20 AM

Waaa they destroyed a car. You whiners. I thought it was pretty cool how it held up against the monster truck.
