hey everyone, well today i took the plunge and did my own diesel tune-up on my 87 300D Turbo (603.960) w/ 196K . i replaced all the glow plugs (not one was stuck) and de-gunked the charge air pipe and intake manifold. well, ill have to say i was suprised how little gunk there was overall, 3 of my plugs had carbon caked to the tips and the intake pressure feed to the overboost solenoid was coked-up (no pressure going to the alda). there was no indication anything needed to be replaced and i suspect the PO before selling it had it serviced. ive had it for 50K so far. needless to say, there is a big performance difference now. with the intake off i was suprised how easy removing the plugs were. oh, and also as a step prior to my tune up today i basted all the plugs and bolts i would need to move with penetrating oil for a week. here are the piks...
