Hey Everyone,

I just thought I'd go ahead and post an introduction thread. I'm brand new to the shop and thought that since I've been reading through it like crazy lately I might as well become a member. I wanted to make my first post on this board because my family as well as I are Diesel lovers (aside from Mercedes.) My father has been a Mercedes mechanic for over 30 years and I've been fortunate enough to have been driving them since the day I recieved my license.

My dad's latest car, '91 350SD Turbo is just about ready to turn over 500,000 miles (It DID have a rebuild at 225k) and this vehicle is my main motivation for trying to pursue a new Mercedes diesel for myself in the W140 chassis. Little did I know that our '91 was pretty much a diamond in the rough in terms of its engine reliability considering how bastardized this engine was. So, because I'm so stubborn on pursuing a W140, it looks as though unless I want to make a trip to Europe and get a later 90s 3.0 liter diesel W140 and import it, I'm S.O.L. The economics of the diesel begin to get weighed down too much with regards to spending an extra 8-10 grand for a well maintained 140 S350D. At this point I'm leaning towards the S320 for luxury and economy, so, I post this as an introduction to my little dilema and as a hello to all of the shop's members. I look forward to learning from everyone and hopefully being able to offer some advice in return. Thanks!!

Welcome to the site. You will find this place populated with people as passionate for Mercedes as are you. Everyone has thier own lobe. I started with a W123 240D, and now have a 300SD. Pay attention to what you read here. There is a lot of expertise around here. There is also some "other" advice; wisdom comes in knowing which is which.
