Making a car go fast and lasting a long time is a very different thing. Will the fins cars last 300k on that setup??

Dragsters go fast but need engine rebuilds every few races. So that is not a really good argument.

More power=shorter engine life

Absolutely, we shouldn't be surprised that a 3L 617 making 120 HP is going to last much longer than a 3L ricer making 250 HP. These things are incredibly over-designed for their power output.

I know guys with over 300k miles on their Powerstrokes running [similar] performance systems and they see PLENTY of off road conditions - WAY, WAY more than my 300D ever will. But unfortunately as vstech pointed out, something should be done to get colder air directly to it. With that stock mess removed I had plenty of room to mount my veg oil filter system; no way I could have put it in there with that in the way.

if you haven't have any problems yet? good for you! but that doesn't assure you that you won't have any abnormal engine wear problem in the next mile or two on so on. it's like a time bomb waiting to explode and no one never knows when. do what ever you want on your car, it's yours. i'm just pointing out that i am not going to use one of those aftermarket air filter on my mb. the f'n germans enginneered designed these cars with it to be efficient, reliable and last longer than any other car, so i'd stick with the oem mb air filter. as i've said, i have nothing but her.
