Unplugged my Headlight/ Turnsignals. Wild Times!

So, I unplugged my entire headligt assy and fore turn signals.

Now, I just soldered up a brake light mod and happily trotted down to try out my handiwork.

Upon plugging in the Tail-lights, starting up the car (brake lights only come on when I start the car?) I step on the brake pedal and the Turn signal indicator comes on. Curious.

I turned on the headlights/ taillights and sure enough they work. But I want to see the brake mod! So I get my trusty toolbox and push it up against the brake pedal and head around back to check 'em out. Well, something was strange, i didn't know just what at first but then, clear as day, I had it. The reverse lights were on along with my brakes! Wha??

Took the whole thing back upstairs and cracked it open to be sure I hadn't inadvertently crossed wires.
I hadn't. Tried it out again and when I plugged in the assy. the tail lights came on. good. Then, ever so slowly, the back up lights juiced. Just a little glow coming from them. Head scratcher.

I'm pretty sure that this has everything to do with the disconnected headlights, but it seems very strange to me. Any insight into this electrical carnival??
