Please Help, small emergency

Hi folks,
I have an '85 300SD, yesterday while looking for a misplaced pen i moved the drivers seat all the way forward. I noticed a wire disconnected and didnt think much of it. Today, however, when I get in to put the seat back it will only go about halfway before stopping, the small emergency being that I am 6'3".
The wire is still disconnected as I cant see the motor very well, so I am not sure where to put it. The wire is fairly think and has a flat, rectangular end with two holes.
By the way, all the other adjustment controls work and the track appears to be free of any obstructions.
Thanks for your help!

why did you disconnect the wire? my guess is the electronic seat controls are now disabled... time for the flashlight and mirror trick. good luck.

The cable was already disconnected, I hooked it back up but it turns out it was just the seatbelt warning buzzer.

The seat controls are all currently working, it is just that the seat stops about halfway back on the track for no apparent reason. It will move forward fine but will not go past the halfway point.

Any explanation other than a bad motor??

They get finicky when the grow old. Move it forward and then with some light assistance from you move it backwards again. Sometimes they hang up. The most common problem is the switches - there are some threads on the forum on how to clean then up.

We need a Diesel Discussion Blog

John

No offense, but for me, this is a good example of some of our forum problems lately.
Didn't really pay attention to what was left in the opening thread, and then left just a wild guess. If the electronic seat controls were disabled, it wouldn't have moved part way back.
See why the old school guys with knowledge have vacated........

I just read down the forum list at the topics, and we are drowning in that we create. I guess we need a blog also, to separate allot of the fluff from the real issues/problems/questions.

**sorry to single you out vstech, this isn't about you so-much......**

Seat won't move

If the seat is working through half of the normal travle then something is jamming the track (maybe the pen you're looking for!)
I've had good luck clearing tracks with compressed air and blow gun.
Good luck Mike

Thanks for the help guys. Reading over this I would guess it is the seat controls. I recently had the door replaced due to an accident and I am pretty sure this is the first time I moved the seat up that far since getting the car back from the body shop.

I have also noticed that when the seat gets to the new stopping point the motor shuts off/stops making noise like it was done moving the seat, not like it is still trying to go back but cant due to an obstruction. Does this lend more credence to the probability of bad/dirty seat controls?

On second thought, I just went outside to try to push back on the seat while operating the control and the seat broke free.

The culprit was a penny that now looks like a crushed beer cap. Watch out for them, they slide into the seat tracks perfectly!!

Thanks for the help folks!

I humbly ask for forgivness from the spam police

lots of stress here, sorry for my lack of attention in reading the question.
I often complain to my self that the guys offering help didn't read it through, or the follow ups, I guess we all sometimes get sidetracked with this stuff.

and I was all excited that I broke the 500 posts left. now I got a few that don't really count.
