Construction crew got my 300TD

Lack of care buy the local road crew has resulted in the front sway bar contacting the oil pan in my 87 300TD wagon. I am torn @ the moment on either trying to fix it or parting it out. Has anyone out there had damage occur from lack of warning signs at construction sites? I wonder if I have a chance trying to recoup as I can hardly imagine how I was at all @ fault.

It needs a pan or has anyone had luck welding up cracks in the aluminum pans on the

Someone here in GR, michigan hit a pothole big enough to break a tie rod end and split their alum wheel (!!!) they sued the state and got it fixed but good luck getting money out of the government, they steal it, not share it. Speaking of the gov. stealing money, they straight up rob customers at my NAPA out of $150+ a day by not refunding the tax charged on cores. :fork_off: But that is a subject for open and im not going to get into it here...

A gal ran a WANT listing in Craigs List last week for a front sway bar for a 123 chassis. I called to tell her good luck, no one saves them when a car is scrapped out theres too much work involved. I asked her how it failed, she said it happened when she hit a pot hole in the road.
BTW San Jose, CA is the worst area in No Calif for pot holes! the roads there are really bad.
Good luck w/ the damage from the road construction site, I would go there when some State employees are on site, get the foreman's name and tel# and go from there. take a picture of the hole (or whatever was the cause of the damage)! I carry an old camera in the trunk of my car for this type of thing, or an accident whichever occurs, fortunately I have not had to use it yet.

Any part yards around where you can pull a pan? If changing it is anything like removeing the tranny pan to change the filter, it shouldn't be anything to scrap the car over.

I once hit a dip hard enough to crack the oil pan (and push the radiator support up and only a finger's gap away from the fan). It was a hairline crack but epoxy fixed it. This was back in 2003.

I had to swerve the other day entering a driveway by my work because there was a CRATER about 2x3 feet (triangle shaped) and probably 1.5-2 feet DEEP. Had I hit that it'd probably have broke the wheel off my car. Its rediculous how slow they are to fix major holes like that, meanwhile, they are all over the place filling in little cracks and stuff. Of course, all this is in good o'l GR Michigan. Home of the road-craters. You would think we have a problem with small asteroids if you drove around here...the holes are plenty big enough for it!

I fixed a pan from a 300SL with JB Weld that had been split in half. If the surface is completely 100% CLEAN, it will stick and go through anything.

My drivers side upper control arm came lose from the sway-bar when I hit a put-hole, the good thing was that I was only going 10 mph.

Most cities will have a $$$ limit that they will pay out on just a complaint without legal action. In Atlanta I think its $2k. Do you have proof thats what caused it? If so call a lawyer.
