Floor insulation replacement?

Hello everyone,

A dumb question. Which material can I use to replace the compressed fiber insulation that the W123 has under the floor mats?

I'm going to remove the whole insulation because its rotten. I need a cheap option that is as effective as the orinigal material.

Regards

Dynamat may work, but it's not cheap.

Check out this stuff.....http://www.b-quiet.com

Used it on my 99 PSD and it definately helped. They have several types of materials.

If you really want to go cheap - try the felt padding they use under Berber carpets. You can buy it by the yard at your favorite home warehouse or carpet store. Secure with 3M fabric glue spray.

anyone ever tried spraying expanding foam on the floors?

sounds like a mess... If your gonna do that might as well just pour concrete. That will quiet her down ALOT.

Try Jute it is whats behide the dash and the knee bolsters and behind the rear seat. You can get from an upholstery shop for cheap.

Uses NASA developed technology even :D

The aluminum probably resists alien attempts to tap your brainwaves.

however, on my TD it is too noisy...I just purchased 4 sheets of dynamat from advance auto for 55.00, and I will be installing that this weekend. try it and drive it and see for yourself. if it's not too bad for YOU, leave it.

Ok, I'll try that.

Any other material that might work and that can be installed without glue? I really don't like the idea of pasting something against the floor metal because of humidity and stuff like that. I like the idea of being able to take everything out every once in a while to clean and wash...

I used plain ole foam rubber about 1" thick...cheap, works great, and really cuts down on noise, and it FEELS really cushy under foot. i just had this stuff laying around and it was use it or trash it...I used it.

Another option....get some of those dense rubber foam pads that you use on shop floor work areas and cut those to fit. Won't be as cushy, but should hold up much longer. Use anything that will help, carpet pad, old carpet, newspaper...anything is better than nothing

Be careful when using just anything. You don't want a mildew problem in an enclosed space.
