TD owners, be sure your SLS is working!
I just got a 1983 300TD, and doing the usual inspections, I found the fuel tank to be MAJORLY damaged. the entire bottom of the tank is covered with street scars, some on the verge of penetration, the fuel lines have been hit and ripped, as well. I knew the SLS was leaking before I bought the car, but man what a lousy design to place the tank this low in the back of the car! I plan to weld in a steel plate or put a full frame trailer hitch back there for better protection.
What was originally covering the tank? nothing? is there a factory skid plate for the tank? John
