I have a 240/300 conversion just as you describe. I call it a 270. I bought it that way, knowing what it is; don't know who did the conversion, but it is very well done. It still has the original rear, and I guess its acceleration is reduced, but with a 240d, who can really tell? Actually the difference is only about 6%, a side benefit is it cruises at a lower engine speed and gets a tad better mileage.

I just changed oil on my W115. On the 115, you have to reach up through the suspension wishbone to remove the filter cannister and is even less accessible than this one; they're definitely a candidate for synthetics coz you don't want to do this change any more often than you absolutely have to. Next time I go to the co-op I'm going to buy some veterinary exam gloves for use doing these oil changes. ![]()

that would be an excellent tool to use when artificially insemminating cows!
sort of an arm rubber. the reason i think of this is my BIL lost his wedding ring in a cow once and after that she never could get pregnant. it acted as an IUD! ha! tom w

Haven't done much more than piddle for the last couple of days. Just not much time before dark.
Was disconnecting the last few little wires and linkages (btw, I'll have serious throttle issues at a later date!), and I am now finally realizing what a hack job the previous owner did on the wiring! ![]() There is this thick pinkish.red wiring running all over the place. Some kind of cheesy amp meter under dash, two weird spring loaded things (switches?), some kind of switch with bulb, and wiring everywhere. Will have to sit down and really do a lot of tracing in the future. I imagine I will pull the dash to get a clearer picture, plus I think I am gonna try and swap to the 240 manual AC controls. Wiring and electrical is going to be a big issue with that, and other things too really. And I have always been Dumb Electrical Guy. ![]() I did lube the hood hinge pieces, and at least it will open without so much brute force needed......

It was broken at the other end. My guess is a kill wire to compensate for a vac leak, just based on the level of hack-ness. Could be fix for idle control also. Who knows.......
WD, sounds like you have a weekend project going....... ![]() HitMan, the wiring under there is mind boggling. I'm gonna start in on some wire tracing. Got engine out this evening. Pics to follow.....

Got engine pulled by myself this evening, and have of course learned several things. First and foremost, I will need help getting the other motor installed. I can pull the one from the 240, but I just think having help on re installation is a smart idea. Help guiding engine hoist, pointing things the right direction, lining up motor mounts, etc..... Plus, misery loves company.
One pic will show that on my little 6 foot bit of concrete, there is a major lip at connection to garage. I couldn't move hoist on flat ground when engine was hoisted. I got stuck at one point and couldn't go higher, couldn't move, etc...... Oh, and the load leveler works great as long as the load to be leveled is not being supported. When weight is on it, leveler no-worky........ almost forgot to unhook alternator. Got everything else.

There was a point where I was very stuck for awhile. Load leveler wouldn't adjust, tranny was against firewall tunnel, chain was caught on cross member, etc...... A real cluster-F for awhile.
![]() Got engine hoisted very high, then lower car off of stands, hoisted, turned, twisted, pried over and around front lip...... Finally got it over and out. Had to pull car back from underneath engine a little at a time, lift, drag, turn, pry..... ![]() ![]() I'm sure there is an easier way. Somebody who has done this before would have had a good chuckle at my expense. Heck, I did! ![]()
