A quart of RISLONE oil additive will quiet the lifters and is safe for diesels. Put it in with the engine warm and drive it around town for 15 minutes.

I'm not familiar with the turbo set-up in your car. Disconnect the hose from the valve cover to the turbo inlet and cap the fitting. Clean the pipe from the turbo to the intake manifold. Drive the car that way for a while. See if there is oil in the pipe from the turbo to the intake manifold. If so, probably have a bad turbo seal. See if there is a mess at the open end of the valve cover hose you could put it loosely in a bottle. If so then your engine has excessive blow-by.
If that doesn't do it, it could be a bad valve guide or valve seal or a turbo seal leaking into the turbine side. Check the easy things first. Sixto 93 300SD |

Don't discount a sticking EGR valve as a culprit.
