window nightmare! Help!!

My rear window is stuck in the down position. I think the switch is faulty. I'm not able to get a new one at this time so I took apart the rear door to see if I could jump the motor. There is a green line and a black line going to the window motor. I put a hot line on each of these and nothing happened. Am I doing something wrong or is the motor burned out. I'm electrically challenged! Thanks

The connections to the window are enclosed in a black hose near the top of the door which then goes into the car's frame(it's about the size of a tennis racket handle). While the the offending window's door is open move this hose around with your hand while pressing the switch in the up position. Sometimes the wire shorts out here and just moving the hose around will get the window up. Two of my three w123's window problems were "solved" doing this.

If the door panel is off then you'll see the wiring for the window motor. I believe there are three wires going to the motor. One is ground... I dont know which is positive and which is neg.... but you could find out

Unless I'm missing something, I only see a black and green going to the window motor

Correct. Two wires to the window motor.

You must put 12V on one of them and ground the other to a known good ground.

This will move the window either up.......or down........you don't know which. So, watch the glass carefully for any sign of movement when you touch the contacts. If it's the wrong way (down), immediately break the contacts and reverse the leads. The window should now go all the way up. Stop when it gets to the top.......don't keep power on a stalled motor or you'll damage the regulator.
