99 E Td

Been searching for information on the 1999 E class Turbo Diesel car. Looking at one and wondering what problems this model has had and what to look for. Car has been dealer serviced but I wonder about this model.
Thanks

I've owned turbo'd W123's, a W124 and W210 and wouldnt trade the W210 for anything except a new CDI. The most refined of the diesels. Reliable (some forum members are up to 320K on non-turbo model), turbo pulls hard, 30mpg commuting, handles well and a pleasure to drive.

Common engine maladies are fuel/air leaks from fuel lines and other IP components sealed by o-rings.

All W210's that live in the salt belt should be checked for rust at the spring perch's; some have failed.

Like any car, it's not perfect. That said, I totally enjoy my 1998 E300,it has made me a Mercedes fan. You should use the search function on this forum for known issues (spring perches, window regulators, glow plugs, dashboard cracks, fuel lines probably covers most of it),using keywords w210, problems, should do it. I have only had mine 18 months and beleive time is best test, but so far it gives me everything I want/need in a car. It's a keeper.

me too

I have owned a 1999 E300 Turbodiesel for about 21 months. I have put nearly 30,000 miles on the car in the interval. Mine has had all the known problems save the spring perches, but it is still an excellent car. There is too much cheapo plastic all around, but it is also fast, solid, and pleasing to drive. I also got a speeding ticket with same, which was not the case with the 1979 240D. So long as one budgets for the issues with leaking fuel lines and the obvious wear and tear of such a vehicle, I can well recommend this car. I have yet to change the glow plugs, and am squeezing my thumbs that such an operation will turn out in my favor.

Ditto the prior comments. These are great cars and seem to hold their value better than the gassers. I bought mine nearly 2 years ago and can still sell it today for at least what I paid for it plus the money I have put into it in that time so it would have cost me nothing to drive for 2 years, except maybe fuel.

ULSD seems to have now caused mine leaks but that also is an achilles heal of this design as they reply too much on rubber o-rings to keep the fuel in and air out of the system.

I tell people if you can work on the car yourself it is a great car to own, if not it will probably put you in the poor house keeping it perfect though.
