300SD vent blower died?
It blew a fuse and stopped. I replaced the fuse for the fan/AC and it did not blow again but my fan is not blowing now. Has anyone experienced this? My radar detector has been giving me a low voltage alarm in the last week when the ac is running (that alternator is not that poweful as it is). So maybe my blower motor was dieing?
Anyone have any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this? If it is the blower can you point me to a photo of it? I changed one on an explorer once. Bob |

blowing ac fuse
my fan /ac system is blowing fuses. The last one did not blow but was so hot I got a nice burn from it. I took it out before I start melting the wiring. Is my compressor going? Something is drawing too much current and it is not my fan blower.

The ac/blower circuit is very marginal on these vehicles and the circut is pushed to the limit most of the time.
An older blower will make this situation worse as it tends to draw more current. You can find the blower by lowering the passenger kick panel. It's directly over the panel and can be dropped down from that position. There is a plug directly in front of the unit. You can apply 12V and ground to the plug and see what the motor is doing, independent of the controller, resistors, and CCU. The loss of the blower motor can be related to the controller, the resistor bank, the CCU, the motor itself, or the temperature sensor in the head. |

On my older 116 300SD the blower motor was binding and causing the overheat and low blow. Replacement took care of it. As stated, it is under the passenger kick panel, three 8 mm screws and alot of wiggling.

Same thing happened to me. Turns out that the magnets on the outside of the case began to come loose, it siezed up, ripped some windings apart and blew #3 and #9 fuse. no used or new blower motor IN CANADA so I grafted a 89 Caravan blower, temporarily, to keep my windows clear this winter, I have another more powerfull blower from an 81 Trans Am (because I had one) that I'm going to replace it with and hopefully regain my original CFM.
Low volt alarm on your Radar detector is a pretty good indication that the voltage regulator is on its way to the grave. put a tester on your battery at idle and see what voltage you're getting. a V-Reg can be toast, but not toast enough to allow the battery light come on.... they're cheap and REALLY easy to replace, I got mine at NAPA for $9.99CDN
