the radiator pressure kit/gage that you rent from Autozone is very helpful. I strongly suggest you use it. You can test your pressure with the engine cold by simply connecting this device on the radiator fill opening (or expansion tank fill opening if there is no radiator fill opening) and pump air into the system to create the pressure.

I found my leak when it got to about 10psi. It was the bypass hose fitting (C220) that I did not tighten very well that started leaking.

I believe there is a high limit to the pressure that you need to adhere to. Read the instructions. You don't want to exceed that pressure. If I recall it was either 19 or 23 psi..... the instructions will tell you.

I too fear the heater core. Hopefully it will just be the hoses at firewall connection, but the evap drain drips right down on the tranny........
We'll hope that isn't it.
I'm guessing you know, but cooling systems tend to leak after the car is turned off after it has been driven/running for awhile.

well, its in the hands of the bens den in belmont, ma now. they didnt seem to think it would be the heater core, but who knows? my wallet trembles, but we'll see what happens.

p.s. they seem like really nice guys there, and knowledgable, too.

update: with system under pressure, they werent able to duplicate any leaks, or find anything at all coming from the cooling system, so i guess maybe it was either the overflow mysteriously travelling through to the middle of the car, or some other inexplicable happening.

while the car was on the lift, they did find a few other things to fix, though... whats that saying about a cheap mercedes again?
