#4 GP Any ideas on getting it out?

Yep, time to change the number 4 GP on my 300sd. Any ideas on getting it out without removing just about everything in the engine?

Removing everything?

You can just slip your hands in there if you try or just remove the IP lines, that's simple to do.

There are a lot of places on our cars where removing/replacing parts almost requires a body built like a spider monkey. Unfortunately, I have forearms like Popeye. Toot-toot. I've just gotten used to visualizing where my hand needs to be based on the diagram/pic, then persistently ramming/wiggling/jamming/cursing/flexing/wriggling until I'm there. I worry about *disengaging* my arm after the fact.

One thing that helps me out in the engine bay is keeping a step-stool handy, so I can get the most advantageous angle of approach for getting into tight places.

Good luck!

That is a great idea. I haven't thought about the stool.

i started my hand toward the front of the engine and wedged it back to where i could get to the 4th gp was not a nice way to do it but it worked.... i was using the tips of my fingers to do the work. my leisurly activity is rock climbing so i am good with the tips of my fingers. and my day job is massage therapy.

I got it with just a box wrench. It's pretty tight and you can only turn a little at a time (a combination ratchet wrench would work great) but it comes out if you're persistent. The only one I couldn't get was #5, I should have the right wrench now though to get the nut off.

Took me maybe five minutes to pull the IP lines. Why make life harder?

Those brackets make it a bit harder to reinstall only to me.
