Window/Trunk Seal Replacement
1976 w115 240D. I have a trunk leak and a rear passenger door leak. The seals are crusty and tired. Is anyone willing to lead me though the replacement procedure? I would guess the following...you can add detail/point out problems. Thanks!
1) Peel off original seal. 2) Scrape off glue. (I'm guessing there will be some?) 3) Apply some sort of adhesive (I was going to use superglue) 4) Attach new seal by applying pressure. This is my naive DIY version. What do you guys think? Feel free to let the insults fly if they're due! Last edited by G. Sachinidis; 12-06-2006 at 10:47 PM. |

Check out the DIY forum. A member was offering to hold hands during the seal replacement procedure. I'm going to have to do front and back on my '79 SD (should I determine the body is saveable) but not until January at the earliest.
Report back if you have the time/digital camera

I hope you have a heated garage to do this in... or you have some warm weather.
don't use superglue! standard yellow or black 3M weatherstrip adhesive is the way to go. on my SD, and my TD, I used no glue on reassembly. so far no leaks. I however, have not done any doors yet... the TD needs it, but I'll tackle the GP's so it will start first! John I just re-read your post, and see you are in my neighborhood, so drop me a PM or email if ya need to chat about anything. John
