Door panel Question (80 SD)

Why is air vented into the doorpanel??

Torontonian greetings--

I was just pondering that design question, myself, while tinkering with the HVAC system on my '87 SDL. Certainly the venting warms the door panels (helpful during our lovely Canadian winters), but I think perhaps it aids in defrosting the windows, as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the door panel venting only happens with heat/defrost.

By the way, how's the 116 SD in the snow? As you can see from my signature, I used to have one. I never quite fell out of love with her...

My understanding is that it was to assist with the defogging of the side windows.
