I won't get into my feelings on the wheels and the grill 'cause it is just a personal preference type thing.
It is nice to see a car rescued and made to look that nice. I really like the headlights, and dig that right hand drive. Got any interior pics of his car? And, looking back at the first pic, it appears to be a gasser.

Guess I agree with the rest of you . . .
It looks like they did a good job of restoration, just got a little too carried away with the embellishment. That big grill star looks good on an SEC, but doesn't really fit on this car. I bet that is a rough ride on those huge rims! The same thing in a 16" or 17" rim might be okay.

Yeah, the lights look very cool. I love the look of the wheels, Just not on that car. on an SDL maybe... perhaps on a 116 SD it might look ok. the car is just too short and tall to work right with those wheels. Great resto though.

Your friend Rully did some nice work on the body. Hey if he likes the wheels that is all that really matters in the end. Personally I am going with some 17" wheels for my 1983 300SD. Bigger than that and ride quality _really_ suffers and pot holes tear up the side walls and rim edges IMHO. I also have a fun quick Mustang for summer driving. I have Bilstein shocks so it rides OK. My friends who have 18" and 19" wheels on their Mustangs do not enjoy their overly harsh ride quality. Anyway he did some nice work saving a car from the scrap yard. A lot of us like me have "restomod" MB cars in progress here. My 1983 300sd has a 1990 leather interior, dash and the power telescope steering column soon going in it. My body shop friend wants to do the interior swap for me right now. He is also removing the bumpers and trim to have the car totally prepped and ready for new paint at another shop. He mainly likes to paint fenders and quarters as he makes his living repairing and selling lightly totaled repairable cars and trucks. I also have a wood MB steering wheel, shift handle going in my car. I will also add the chrome mouldings around the 4 wheel wells so my car is a restomod in progress. Again 17" tires and wheels is the biggest size I would ever consider using on my MB diesel car. Even 17" rims with tires with over size lips to protect from curb hits damaging the wheels is sacrificing some ride quality. I am buying one extra 17" rim just in case. Tell Rully all is good in the end with his labor of love. The big grins and smiles he must get in his Country must be totally amazing. Don't let the purists get him down at all. I applaud his efforts. John
