Shifter bushings, see this!

I had a terrible time last week with shifter bushings, but thanks to you on the forum, especially Surf N Turf, I finally figured out what was going on. I didn't know due to the visual of what I had originally.

I finally got it done, found a much easier way to do it, and posted a new DIY. Check it out!

Thanks, the noise you describe may be exactly what I am experiencing! For a year or so, this perplexing slight rattling noise has been emitted once in awhile from the shifter/console area while driving, and when I touch the lever or move it the sound goes away. I'll have to follow your instructions to replace the bushings; I could easily see them being shot with the 160k my car has on it.

I found it much more easy to replace my shifter bushings by removing the shifter from the center console.

I had to remove it anyway, it was damaged when the flexdisk broke.
