Fast diesel
Quote:
I had it up to 150MPH (250 KmH), and you could tell that it still had plenty in reserve...but I didn't have the nerve to go any faster (the Autobahn wasn't free of traffic). But I decided that if I bought it, I would evntually try out the top end and get in a fatal accident. The car also had the TV altered so that you could watch it while driving (it's supposed to shut off the picture after you start moving...nice for traffic jams, of which there are enough in Germany. Any ideas how to improve turbolag on the 320 cdi? |
I drove one of those new Bluetec's the other day. Impressive car as far as acceleration, speed and quietness but it did not have the feel of a 123, 126 or 124 and it was not a better feeling:rolleyes:.

M88 Tank Retriever
I drove an ADVS 1790 equipped M88 tank retriever in the Army once, It rode like driving a boat across land, kind of rolled forward and back in the waves (ruts). With the tiller, felt like driving a lawnmower, but of course it would tow tanks on rough ground. I've driven a 250 hp Mack scrap semi, driving the Mercedes 240D reminds me of that . Fastest diesel I ever saw was a long nose semi cattle truck on I35 in Oklahoma, I had to kick my Ford up to 100 mph to keep him from passing me and getting cow**** all over the car. I was passed by a gravel truck in Texas at 85 mph one time, US 90 west of Uvalde, bleah.

The trucking company I work for has a fleet of Kenworths with 470 Hp Series 60 Detroit engines in front of 10 speed Eaton gearboxes. But the newest trucks now have Cummins engines because Benz bought Detroit Deisel and now markets them in Freightliners only. Too bad. Now I can drink two cups of coffee coming up Stevens pass with the Cummins. Big power, but with 105,500 lb of gasoline tanker to drag over the hill it's pretty slow. Don't slide into the back of me with your 4 Matic in the snow. It'll make a big bang.
